Job summary

Tufts Medicine seeks a Patient Service Representative I for Lowell General Hospital – Saints Campus. The role focuses on revenue cycle tasks including billing, collections, and payment processing, while conducting patient registration with accuracy and courtesy.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, collecting patient liabilities, and posting payments. Strong customer service and HIPAA-compliant handling of information are required.

Qualifications

• This role requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred candidates have at least 1 year of customer service or hospital registration experience.
• Familiarity with patient registration, insurance verification, and financial clearance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interview inpatients and outpatients to obtain accurate registration data.
• Collect and document demographic and financial information for scheduling and billing.
• Verify insurance benefits and perform pre-authorization when required.
• Obtain consent for treatments and explain signature requirements to patients.
• Notify patients of financial liabilities and assist with time-of-service collections.
• Post payments and ensure accurate posting in the system per policy.
• Offer Financial Counselor contact info to patients eligible for aid.
• Attach verification documents to patient accounts for reference.
• Coordinate referrals and pre-certifications as needed.
• Maintain patient information confidentially per HIPAA and policy.
• Provide courteous customer service and professional interactions with staff and patients.
• Meet productivity and customer-service benchmarks for registrations and calls.
