Job summary

Thundermist Health Center is seeking a Patient Service Representative to be the welcoming front line for patients and families at our South County clinic in Rhode Island. You will register patients, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and collect payments in a fast-paced, onsite setting.

This role requires accurate data entry, strong communication, and teamwork with nursing staff to triage patient needs while supporting health equity for underserved communities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Accurate data entry with ability to manage high volumes in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with payment or billing collections and ambulatory care settings preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
• Commitment to patient-centered care, health equity, and serving diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Register patients with demographics and insurance data.
• Schedule, confirm, cancel, and reschedule appointments.
• Verify insurance coverage and update records.
• Collect co-payments and outstanding balances.
• Identify scheduling issues and direct to nursing triage.
• Answer incoming calls and route appropriately.
• Take messages and document them.
• Perform outreach for reminders and follow-ups.
• Close end-of-day reports and reconcile transactions.
• Identify and report operational issues.
