Job summary

Nicklaushealth is seeking a Clerical/Administrative professional for Patient Access to greet patients, collect demographics, insurance and payments, and schedule/register admissions. The ideal candidate will verify third-party payer details, obtain necessary authorizations, and coordinate with clinical and admitting staff to ensure smooth patient flow.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience.
• High School education or equivalent preferred.
• Fluent in Spanish strongly preferred.
• Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• One year of experience working with medical terminology, procedures, diagnosis codes, and insurance strongly preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
• Able to accurately enter and interpret data.
• Able to adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
• Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with customers and co-workers.
• Able to serve customers with courtesy and respect.
• Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Able to follow complex written and/or verbal instructions to solve problems.
• Able to establish necessary professional relationships, and interact effectively with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in person or on the telephone and schedules, pre-admits, admits, or registers patients.
• Obtains and verifies demographic, third party payer, financial, and medical information.
• Obtains authorization and communicates with physicians as needed.
• Directs patients to appropriate services and coordinates with departments.
• Documents activities in the computer system and patient records.
• Notifies management of insurance/financial discrepancies for approval.
• Collects payments, issues receipts, and explains financial responsibilities.
• Ensures HIPAA and EMTALA compliance.
• Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information.
• Operates registration and tracking systems and supports disaster drills.
• Works with LifeFlight and admitting teams for transfers/admissions.
