Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to register patients, verify demographics, insurance information and collect co-pays. You will ensure data accuracy and HIPAA compliance while guiding patients through the check-in process.

In this role you will provide exceptional customer service, explain insurance coverage, coordinate with Financial Advocates when needed, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• HIPAA compliant and knowledgeable of applicable state and federal rules/regulations.
• Ability to work in a high stress area, multitask and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills across patient interactions.
• Understand insurance concepts and discuss financial responsibilities with patients.
• Experience with EPIC EMR and insurance verification tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Creates the initial electronic health record foundation and avoids duplicates.
• Checks in and registers patients, verifies demographics and insurance, collects co-pays.
• Explains insurance coverage and refers patients to Financial Advocates when needed.
• Maintains HIPAA confidentiality and handles sensitive information.
• Provides directions, transportation assistance, interpreter services, and other patient support.
• Monitors EHR work queues and follows department processes.
