Job summary

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA seeks a Patient Access Technician to provide clerical support for the patient care team and act as a patient liaison for medical support services. You will handle data collection, documentation, and data retrieval using computerized systems.

The role requires greeting patients, processing registrations, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, and supporting multiple registration locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–3 years of related work experience preferred.
• Minimum six months customer service experience required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of third party payers, ICD-9/CPT coding and medical terminology preferred.
• Interpersonal and written communication with proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
• Proficiency in computer keyboarding skills.
• Must be able to travel to varying work locations as needed.
• FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, and Child Protective Services registry search required for Medical Tower II.

Responsibilities

• Greets, instructs, directs and assists patients and visitors upon arrival to the service area.
• Facilitates the revenue cycle process including patient registration, insurance verification, co-payment collection, authorization data entry and billing inquiries.
• Works collaboratively with departments on patient access information.
• Conducts pre-registration and insurance verification for CHKDHS services.
• Provides coverage to assigned registration locations as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
