Job summary

Nicklaushealth is seeking a detail-oriented Patient Access Clerk to greet patients, collect demographics and payment info, and schedule services. This role requires verifying payer details and obtaining necessary authorizations to ensure smooth check-ins.

Responsibilities include informing patients about costs, assisting with pre-registration, and maintaining accurate electronic records while upholding HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

• 1 year of customer service experience.
• 1 year in a healthcare environment preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both spoken and written.
• Fluent in Spanish strongly preferred.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Able to accurately enter and interpret data.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Follow complex written or verbal instructions.
• Establish professional relationships with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work on-call shifts as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in person or on the telephone.
• Obtains demographic, payer, financial and medical information to schedule/register patients.
• Collects payments and provides receipts when required.
• Verifies third party payer information via the web or telephone.
• Obtains authorizations for hospital services and follows up as needed.
• Documents activities in the patient registration system as appropriate.
• Directs families to the correct location in the facility by various channels.
• Schedules hospital services and pre-registers patients when applicable.
• Triages inquiries and routes them to the appropriate departments.
• Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information per policy.
