Job summary

Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma required.
• 6 months experience as an admissions representative/counselor performing all aspects of the registration process preferred.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtains, verifies, and enters complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate smooth processing through the revenue cycle.
• Thoroughly searches the patient accounting system for an existing medical record on each visit and avoids duplicates.
• Accurately enters demographic information, including patient name, date of birth, gender, address, and guarantor data.
• Monitors assigned DARs/work queues daily to secure all billing elements.
• Financially secures patient accounts to maximize hospital reimbursement.
• Verifies insurance benefits and enters correct payor/plan into EPIC; estimates may be entered if required.
• Obtains insurance referrals and documents authorization details for billing.
• Provides estimates of patient liability prior to visit; involve financial counseling for self-pay accounts.
• Pre-register patients 2–10 working days in advance when possible.
• Registers unscheduled patients and obtains insurance benefits and referrals/authorizations prior to services or discharge.
• Obtains clinical and financial authorization as required by contract.
• For inpatient admissions from outpatient areas, verifies inpatient benefits, notifies bed control, and begins pre-certification.
