Job summary

Emerus seeks a Patient Access Specialist to facilitate patient tracking, verify demographics, and secure payments to maximize hospital reimbursement. You will coordinate with payers, patient families, and healthcare teams to ensure accurate data entry and smooth registration.

Responsibilities include obtaining authorizations, maintaining sensitive records, and delivering excellent customer service at the point of entry. Fluent English is required; Spanish is needed in El Paso market.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification in healthcare preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Fluency in English; English & Spanish required for El Paso market.
• Act 33/Act 73 clearances may be required in PA before start.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and handling of medical records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival.
• Answer calls professionally and route messages to staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents.
• Enter accurate demographic information for accounts to support revenue cycle.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations where applicable.
• Pursue collections at the time of service in a customer-friendly manner.
• Scan documents and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
