Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Services Specialist I for Friendswood Primary Care to create a positive patient experience by coordinating clerical and medical activities and facilitating access to UTMB services for new and returning patients.

The role emphasizes customer service, scheduling, registration, and insurance verification with adherence to confidentiality and hospital policies. Some weekend or extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience; no formal experience required.
• Healthcare, medical office, or patient-facing experience preferred.
• Experience with patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification or demographic data entry.
• Experience with electronic health records or scheduling systems preferred.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire; maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides high level customer service in all interactions with patients and clinicians.
• Coordinates patient registration, scheduling and access to UTMB services.
• Assists with insurance verification and cost estimates for services.
• Pre-registers patients and ensures demographic and third-party coverage information is accurate.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and documents communications securely.
• Supports the care team by coordinating clerical and medical activities as needed.
