Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a part-time patient access representative for the registration and billing workflow. You will collect demographic and insurance information, explain payment options, and assist with pre-certifications as needed.

The role requires accuracy, strong communication, and familiarity with medical terminology. Daily tasks include cash handling, patient scheduling, and ensuring proper consent documentation within a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• State criminal background check and Federal background check if applicable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to use computer software and hospital billing systems.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, billing and insurance information and enter into registration and billing systems.
• May obtain pre-certification and authorizations for managed care.
• Prepare consent forms and privacy notices and obtain signatures/electronic consent.
• Collect deposits, co-pays, deductibles and patient liabilities and issue receipts.
• Prepare patient armbands and balance daily receipts as needed.
• Perform basic screenings and gather information for coverage.
