Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Patient Access/Registration Clerk to greet patients and handle demographics and insurance information accurately, serving as the first impression of WVU Healthcare. You will ensure timely processing, coordinate with hospital departments using scheduling systems, and collect signatures for consent to treat and financial obligations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associate degree in a related medical field such as medical assisting or medical office administration."

Responsibilities

• Collects demographic/billing/insurance information and enters into the registration and billing systems for service and claim processing.
• Obtains pre-certification and authorizations as needed.
• Prepares consent forms, notices of privacy practices, and presents to patient/family for signatures; obtains electronic consent.
• Collects deposits, co-payments, deductibles, and patient liability payments; provides receipts and documents in systems.
• Directs patients to a Financial Counselor for assistance with financial matters.
• Prepares patient armband for identification.
• Balances daily receipts and cash drawer.
• Follows up on accounts based on system flags.
• Identifies ESRD/auto accident/VA/Black Lung/Workers Comp cases and documents info.
• Maintains HIPAA confidentiality and explains insurance/payment options to patients.
• Schedules, reschedules, or cancels appointments; ensures order completeness.
• Communicates with hospital departments using scheduling systems.
