Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a Registrar to support patient care by accurately capturing demographic and insurance information in person or by phone.

The role schedules procedures, secures authorizations, and maintains complete patient records while delivering excellent customer service. Responsibilities include verifying insurance, preregistration, collecting estimates, and communicating with physician offices.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required.
• 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.
• Regulates schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.
• Schedules patient procedures and pre-registers scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.
• Verifies insurance eligibility using designated applications and secures necessary authorizations.
• Collects and records patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.
• Communicates operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.
• Compiles and organizes registration documentation to ensure complete patient medical records.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and resolves questions.
• Documents consent forms when patient cannot sign and notes if a family member signs.
• Places an armband on each patient for proper identification throughout stay.
• Answers and returns phone calls with professionalism and courtesy.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
