Job summary

Scripps Health is seeking a Patient Service Specialist in the Patient Financial Services/Access & Admitting department at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. The role focuses on front-line patient interactions, accurate registration, and payment collection in a per diem environment.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, collecting patient responsibility, and ensuring proper documentation and end-of-day reporting.

Responsibilities

• Interact with patients, payers, and providers to collect information for accurate registration, assign Medical Record Number, referrals/authorizations, and handle payments.
• Receive and route messages within the department and address billing inquiries as needed.
• Supervise the patient check-in/check-out process, verify identity and demographics, obtain signatures, and confirm coverage and benefits.
• Explain HPE eligibility, discuss payment arrangements and provide price estimates to patients.
• Display proactive customer service, take ownership of solutions, and involve leadership when needed.
• Support clinical staff as part of the patient care team during visits.
