Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem in Elmhurst, IL is hiring for a Patient Service Representative I. This full-time role focuses on accurate pre-registrations, registrations, and revenue cycle support in a fast-paced hospital setting.

You will collect demographic and insurance data, verify information, assist families, and use hospital systems to ensure timely patient flow while upholding HIPAA and EMTALA requirements. Weekend and holiday coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in business or healthcare preferred.
• 1-2 years registration, scheduling, patient accounts, cash collections or customer service experience in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of health insurances, medical terminology and anatomy.
• Strong data entry and keyboarding skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient registration functions in a courteous and professional manner according to established policies and procedures.
• Greets and registers patients.
• Collects and analyzes all required data necessary to pre-register and register patients.
• Interacts with patients, their representatives, employers and others in person or over the telephone and reviews information.
• Analyzes and records data and processes transactions into the hospital system.
• Explains, secures and witnesses all required signatures and completes MSP questionnaire when applicable.
• Updates the billing information in accounts according to data collected.
• Scans insurance cards, IDs, referrals and authorizations into imaging system and prepares forms.
