Job summary

NorthShore University HealthSystem in Elmhurst is seeking a Patient Service Representative I for full-time hours, with weekend rotation and a Monday–Friday evening shift (11:30 am–8:00 pm). The role involves courteous patient registration, data collection, and revenue-cycle support, including insurance verification and billing entry.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting demographics, applying coding as needed, and maintaining HIPAA-compliant records.

Qualifications

• Minimum one to two years of registration, scheduling, patient accounts, cash collections or customer service experience in a healthcare setting
• Knowledge of health insurances, medical terminology and anatomy
• Strong data entry and keyboarding skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Bilingual skills

Responsibilities

• Performs patient registration functions in a courteous and professional manner according to established policies and procedures
• Greets and registers patients
• Collects and analyzes all required data to pre-register and register patients; interacts with patients and others and processes transactions
• May transport patients by wheelchair, if necessary
• Uses online physician ordering systems to retrieve and interpret orders and enters codes; contacts physicians for information
• Explains, secures and witnesses required signatures; completes MSP questionnaire when applicable
• Updates billing information in accounts
• Scans insurance cards, IDs, referrals, and other documents into imaging system
• Coordinates daily admissions and bed placement with staff; notifies nursing units of pending admissions
• Processes paperwork and matches registration information to forms; assembles charts and prepares reports
• Converts to manual processes during system downtimes; ensures data recovery
• Performs patient registration financial functions and related duties
