Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Patient Access representative to warmly greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, and complete registrations for walk-ins. You will help manage patient flow and collect appropriate charges.

This role requires knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA and EMTALA rules, strong communication, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality and delivering courteous service. Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and ADT software is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to identify and understand issues; examines data and draws conclusions.
• Understand Medicare, HIPAA, EMTALA rules and updates on pre-certification requirements.
• Mathematical aptitude, strong verbal and written communication, and critical thinking.
• Knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology and referral/authorization processes.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers by phone.
• Handle confidential information per internal policies.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
• Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel and ADT software.
• Write routine correspondence and calculate discounts or percentages.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks in a high-stress environment.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and manage flow to ensure efficient, courteous care.
• Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information.
• Complete registrations for walk-in patients and update information as needed.
• Obtain and collect patient financial responsibility and balances.
• Refer patients to Financial Counselor when financial clearance is needed.
• Close visits, schedule follow-ups and provide necessary documents.
• Maintain knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid and payer requirements.
• Communicate issues to management for process improvement.
• Meet productivity and accuracy targets and maintain professional demeanor.
• Maintain excellent relations with patients, families and staff.
