Job summary

Healthier Mississippi People is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet patients, verify insurance, register for services, collect payments, and schedule appointments. You will maintain accurate patient records in the Master Patient Index and EMR systems while ensuring confidentiality and compliance.

The role requires strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills, with a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and one year of clinical admissions, patient registration, or patient scheduling experience.
• Knowledge of ICD-10/HCPCS/CPT coding is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of third-party and government insurance plans.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in the Emergency Room with professionalism and empathy.
• Complete timely and accurate patient registration, including demographic, insurance, and financial data.
• Obtain patient signatures on consent forms, privacy notices, and financial documents per regulations.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using electronic tools or payer contacts; update records.
• Collect co-pays, deductibles, or deposits and explain financial assistance options when needed.
• Coordinate with clinical and security teams to manage patient intake and flow.
• Enter and maintain patient data in EMR and registration systems; correct duplicates as needed.
• Respond promptly to patient inquiries with sensitivity to different situations.
• Stay informed on payer guidelines and hospital policies for accuracy and compliance.
• Support process improvements and assist in staff training; provide backup coverage as needed.
• All other duties as assigned by management.
