Job summary

Healthier Mississippi People in Jackson is seeking a Patient Access Representative to greet patients in the Emergency Department, register demographic and insurance information, collect payments, and ensure accurate records in the Master Patient Index.

You will verify coverage, collect co-pays, enter data into the EMR, and coordinate with care teams to keep patient flow smooth while upholding confidentiality and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 1 year in clinical admissions, patient registration, or scheduling.
• Familiarity with patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
• Knowledge of payer guidelines and basic billing concepts is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in the ER with professionalism and empathy.
• Register patients, collect demographic, insurance, and financial information accurately.
• Obtain signatures on consent forms and privacy notices per regulations.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits; update records accordingly.
• Collect co-pays and deposits; explain financial assistance when applicable.
• Coordinate with clinical and security teams to manage patient intake and flow.
• Enter and maintain patient data in the EMR; fix duplicates and errors.
• Respond promptly to inquiries with courtesy and sensitivity.
• Stay informed on payer guidelines and hospital policies.
• Support process improvements and assist in training staff during peak periods.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
