Job summary

Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, AL seeks a Registrar to accurately capture and verify demographic and insurance information during in-person and phone interactions, ensuring a smooth patient registration process.

You will schedule procedures, obtain authorizations, verify insurance eligibility, and maintain complete patient records while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Prior experience in medical office admin or front desk is preferred.

Qualifications

• Post secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required.
• 0-2 years of experience in a customer service role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with patients and families to address questions and provide courteous, timely assistance.
• Regulates schedules based on procedure requirements, physician availability, and staffing needs.
• Schedules patient procedures and pre-registers scheduled patients by obtaining accurate demographic information.
• Verifies insurance eligibility using designated applications, captures correct health insurance details, and secures necessary authorizations and verifications for services.
• Collects and records patient financial responsibility estimates as applicable.
• Communicates operative reports daily to appropriate physician offices.
• Compiles and organizes registration documentation to ensure completion of patient medical records.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and assists with resolving insurance-related questions.
• Documents on forms if the patient is unable to sign consent, or notes who signs and nursing sign-off if needed.
• Places an armband on each patient before leaving the department for proper identification.
• Answers and returns phone calls with professionalism and courtesy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
