Job summary

UofL Health is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage patient referrals, authorizations, and scheduling for specialty services and imaging. You will work closely with physicians, patients, and payers to ensure timely reimbursements and accurate referrals.

Responsibilities include processing referrals, answering questions about health plans, coordinating appointments, and maintaining referral records. The role requires HIPAA compliance and strong clerical skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year experience in a medical facility preferred.
• Knowledge of health care field and medical office procedures.

Responsibilities

• Gathers, verifies and processes referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications.
• Communicates billing and insurance questions with patients.
• Sets up appointments and coordinates clinic visits, including transportation and interpreter services.
• Coordinates information flow between clinic and referral authorization to secure valid referrals.
• Enters referrals and documents communications in the system.
• Notifies physicians and patients when referrals are denied or need more information.
• Maintains database of referral offices preferred by each physician.
• Assists Practice Manager with complaint resolution related to referrals.
