Job summary

UofL Health in Louisville, KY is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications for specialty visits and imaging. You will schedule appointments, coordinate clinic visits, and ensure timely communication with patients and physicians while protecting patient privacy.

The role requires prior medical office experience, strong communication, and knowledge of payer processes to support accurate reimbursement and efficient care delivery.

Qualifications

• Must have experience in a medical facility with health care office procedures.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain coverage and referrals clearly.
• Familiarity with medical office workflows and payer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Gathers, verifies and processes referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications with physicians, patients, and payers.
• Communicates health plan details and billing/insurance clarifications to patients.
• Sets up appointments and coordinates clinic visits and transportation or interpreter services as needed.
• Manages referral flow between clinics and authorization departments to secure valid referrals.
• Enters referral data and documents communications in the system.
• Notifies physicians and patients when referrals are denied or more information is required.
• Supports complaint resolution and process improvements related to patient referrals.
• Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times.
