Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Hospital is looking for a Patient Access Representative to join our team on a PRN basis for Days & Evenings in Lake Charles, LA. You will greet patients, collect demographics, verify insurance, and perform accurate registrations using EPIC RTE.

The role emphasizes courteous, efficient service and clear communication with patients, families, and medical staff. Prior healthcare experience and basic computer skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• At least one year of experience working in healthcare related field, preferably finance.
• Adequate keyboard skills (40 words per minute typing rate).
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, including ability to discuss medical issues.
• Negotiation skills including assertiveness and being proactive.
• Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patients, family, peers and medical personnel; Basic math skills and appropriate phone etiquette.
• Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrates foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Responsibilities

• Greets all customers in a professional and friendly manner and guides them to the correct area.
• Ensure patients receive timely registration and aim for a 15-minute flow to protect schedules.
• Collects updated demographics and accurately codes information for patients.
• Explain deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments; explain insurance processing to patients.
• Obtain signatures, including Medicare notices and MSP for Medicare patients.
• Collect photo ID and insurance card; scan documents to accounts clearly.
• Coordinate with insurance for verification and necessary authorizations.
• Explain Lake Charles Memorial Health System Financial Assistance program to patients.
• Assist customers and navigate to the correct area; provide directions when needed.
