Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the WellSpan Hospital in Shrewsbury, PA. The role focuses on gathering accurate demographic data, verifying insurance, and collecting out-of-pocket amounts to maximize reimbursement.

Expect a day shift in a full-time role with several perquisites. The incumbent will deliver excellent customer service, protect patient safety, and coordinate with payers and care teams throughout the revenue cycle.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Fluency in English; bilingual in English & Spanish required in some markets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance and all hospital regulations for Admissions.
• Provide excellent customer service by meeting customer needs and building relationships.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to protect patient safety.
• Answer calls professionally and relay messages to medical staff.
• Verify and collect demographic information to facilitate revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and payors; obtain authorizations where applicable.
• Assist with cash handling and maintaining the cash drawer.
• Coordinate patient transfers between hospitals when needed.
