Summary:

Facilitates patient flow through the system from scheduling through registration check-in to provide a seamless experience. Responsible for obtaining demographic and financial information to ensure accurate patient identification and appropriate payment sources. Performs registration, insurance verification, patient liability collection, scheduling, and admitting duties. Provides estimates for services when appropriate and processes patient payments. Working hours may include weekends, evenings, overnights, and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  1. Greet patients, physicians, staff, and guests professionally. Check patients into the system, provide directions, and assist patients with special needs while respecting confidentiality.
  2. Respond to telephone calls according to customer service standards, provide information, and contribute to reducing call abandonment rates and wait times.
  3. Accurately search and select patients within the hospital system using the Patient Identification procedure to maintain EMPI integrity and ensure accurate patient identification.
  4. Establish and schedule appointments following protocols, and confirm or obtain additional information from patients as needed.
  5. Perform registration functions, entering complete demographic and financial data to secure payment.
  6. Verify insurance eligibility and fulfill payor requirements, including initiating transactions and contacting payors for billing and authorization.
  7. Provide service estimates and actively communicate patient liabilities.
  8. Enter testing orders as necessary, understanding coding, protocols, and charge descriptions.
  9. Obtain signatures for all required consents and notifications.
  10. Remain compliant with departmental policies, HIPAA, EMTALA, and Patient Bill of Rights.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Information:

  • Education: HS Diploma with 2+ years related experience; Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year preferred; basic MS Word & Excel skills; customer service skills.
  • Desired: NAHAM certification within one year of hire.
