Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Lead MOA to supervise daily administrative operations, direct scheduling staff, and coordinate patient flow across departments. You will ensure staffing coverage and support staff development in a fast-paced setting.

This on-site role requires strong customer service, communication, and multitasking abilities, with proficiency in Windows, Excel, and Access. MUSC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-Verify.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree and one year relevant work experience in customer service business environment or healthcare (patient registration, admitting, and/or scheduling) or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) with three years relevant experience.
  • Experience with Windows, Excel, Access and Intranet/Internet navigation tools as well as system contact required.
  • Experience with, or knowledge of Medical Terminology a plus.
  • Must prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a busy environment; strong verbal, written, and problem solving skills; able to work in a self-directed manner while interacting with customers, physicians and departmental partners.
  • Familiarity with MUSC Health and its entities required.
  • High level of customer service skills and ability to articulate via phone with providers, patients and customers.
  • Typing speed of 25 cwpm and computer experience required.
  • Patient Access Certification preferred.
  • Position may require weekend and staggered shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily administrative operations in assigned area and directs scheduling staff.
  • Performs patient access functions using department systems and tools.
  • Collects patient demographic, insurance, and limited medical information.
  • Obtains signatures for consent and authorization.
  • Ensures patient privacy and prints registration documents as required.
  • Assists patients, families, and visitors with questions and directions.
  • Collects payments on patient accounts and contacts insurers for certifications/authorizations.
  • Communicates with insurance companies, physician offices, patients, and staff.
  • Participates in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
