Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Registration and Insurance Verification Specialist to support the admission process across registration areas. The role manages cash collections, explains coverage and costs, and arranges payment plans for patients at discharge, while ensuring accurate MSP data and confidentiality.

Ideal candidates will have strong customer service, typing, and communication skills, with knowledge of medical terminology and relevant experience in hospital patient accounts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year experience working with insurance and patient accounts.
• Typing skills and basic personal computer knowledge needed to enter patient information.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office practices preferred.
• CHAA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects co-pay amounts, posts the payment in the computer, prints receipts, balances cash at end of shift.
• Explains insurance coverage, treatment costs, and hospital billing policies to patients/families; sets up payment plans.
• Makes financial arrangements for patients without insurance or with inadequate coverage; informs about financial assistance programs.
• Verifies benefits and coverage by accessing insurance eligibility websites; documents co-pay/deductible amounts.
• Performs inpatient admission functions and related registration duties; collects demographics and MSP information; adheres to confidentiality.
