Job summary

Hennepin Healthcare is seeking a patient access clerk to welcome patients, perform check-in/check-out, and collect payments in a high-volume, in-person clinic setting. You will use Epic and other health system tools to support accurate registrations, insurance checks, and scheduling.

The role emphasizes strong customer service, professional communication, and teamwork to meet clinic quality goals. Experience in healthcare or medical offices is preferred, with a focus on patient-centered service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least one year of experience in a related field and/or six months of medical clerk experience.
• One year of customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and guests in a friendly manner, following Hennepin Healthcare expectations.
• Provides navigation assistance to patients and guests.
• Utilizes the electronic health record for check-in, payments, registration, and check-out processes.
• Verifies insurance accuracy through Real Time Eligibility and Benefits Engine.
• Maintains a neat and sanitized workspace and waiting areas.
• Handles patient financial transactions and daily reconciliations.
• Supports clinic efficiency and assists in scheduling and clerical tasks.
• Provides scheduling support for providers and departments.
• Assists providers with urgent requests and special patient needs.
• Manages in-basket messages and prioritizes based on SLA and urgency.
• Creates encounters for medical forms and delivers them to the clinical team.
