Job summary

Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is seeking a Financial Counselor to bridge patients, families, and the business office. You will guide patients through insurance options, Medi-Cal and other assistance programs, and coordinate admissions and billing processes.

This full-time role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work across departments in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of healthcare experience preferred.
• Two years of insurance verification experience preferred.
• Experience with Medi-Cal/Healthcare insurance verification and billing preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding required.
• Understanding of medical terminology and patient financial responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and interview patients or families to collect personal and insurance information.
• Arrange admissions and ensure all paperwork is completed accurately.
• Verify insurance coverage and communicate details to relevant departments.
• Provide clear financial counseling before admission.
• Assist with Medi-Cal eligibility and other financial assistance programs.
• Coordinate with county offices for TAR and follow up on payments.
• Support collections by handling billing inquiries and resolving balances.
• Collaborate with the business office to reduce denials and improve reimbursements.
• Maintain accurate records and respond to inquiries promptly.
• Perform other duties to support admissions and billing operations.
