Job summary

Belmont Behavioral Health System seeks a full-time Patient Financial Counselor to verify insurance, handle billing and collections, and counsel patients on financial obligations. The role focuses on accurate documentation of benefits, determining financial assistance options, and coordinating with care teams to ensure timely payments.

The ideal candidate has strong experience in commercial insurance, Medicare/Medicaid, and a commitment to helping patients navigate complex billing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three or more years' experience in related field required.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of Commercial Insurance and Medicare/Medicaid required.

Responsibilities

• Audit admission packets and verify benefits in the patient accounting system.
• Provide financial counseling to patients/guarantors and collect out-of-pocket costs.
• Complete financial disclosure paperwork for assistance programs including verifying income/expenses.
• Prepare adjustment forms for charity or administrative adjustments.
• Draft promissory notes for patients requesting payment arrangements.
• Update upfront collection, charity, and admin adjustment logs; review weekly with leadership.
• Gather and interpret data to determine the appropriate course of action for collections.
