Job summary

Tufts Medicine in Lawrence, MA is hiring for a Patient Access/Revenue Cycle role focused on billing, collections, and scheduling. You will coordinate referrals, verify insurance, review demographics, and guide patients through financial counseling and benefit programs.

The position requires a high school diploma and experience in insurance or hospital registration; a bachelor’s degree is preferred with related experience and MassHealth Counselor certification valued.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of related experience in insurance, managed care referral processes, private physician's office practice or hospital registration.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; three years of related experience and MassHealth Certified Application Counselor desired.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all incoming referrals for consultations from physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities.
• Compiles clinical data including physician notes, history, labs and imaging as needed from referring provider.
• Schedules consultation appointments and verifies demographic information and insurance eligibility.
• Verifies insurance, benefits and patient responsibility with payers.
• Meets with patient and family to review insurance and costs during introductions.
• Acts as patient liaison for financial matters throughout treatment and follows up quarterly.
• Collects patient responsibility pre-service and establishes payment plans if needed.
• Processes applications for Massachusetts Medicaid and related programs.
• Refers patients to additional programs such as Veterans Services and EAEDC.
• Works with Social Work, Billing and Contracting to provide cohesive patient support.
• Ensures applications are complete to maximize benefits for patient and hospital.
• Documents all steps and meeting minutes in the account history.
• Handles medical record requests from patients, insurers, and attorneys, with fee where applicable.
• Requests insurance referrals from physicians and sends pre-visit paperwork with clear instructions.
• Assists patients in maximizing insurance benefits.
