Job summary

New England Neurological Associates in Lawrence seeks an entry-level Patient Access Clerk focused on revenue cycle operations including billing, collections and payment processing. You will manage referrals, verify insurance, and assist with financial counseling for patients, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure timely scheduling and service delivery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two (2) years of related experience in insurance, managed care referral processes, private physician's office practice or hospital registration setting.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Three (3) years of related experience in insurance, managed care referral processes, private physician's office practice or hospital registration setting.
• MassHealth Certified Application Counselor.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates all incoming referrals for consultations from physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities.
• Compiles clinical data, including physician notes, patient history, laboratory and imaging results and other clinical information.
• Arranges and schedules consultation appointments, verifies demographics and insurance eligibility.
• Verifies insurance and collects patient responsibility from payer.
• Meets with patient and family during introduction meetings to review insurance coverage and costs.
• Acts as patient liaison for financial matters throughout treatment and follows up quarterly.
• Pre-services patient responsibility collection and payment plan setup if needed.
• Handles Massachusetts Medicaid applications and other programs.
• Refs patients to programs where hospital staff cannot file directly for the patient.
• Collaborates with Social Work, Case Management, Billing, and Contracting to support the patient.
• Stays updated on regulations to maximize eligible benefits.
• Documents meeting minutes and steps taken on accounts.
• Processes medical record requests and ensures payment when required.
• Requests insurance referrals from treating physician or PCP and sends pre-visit paperwork with instructions.
• Assists patients in maximizing insurance benefits.
