Job summary

Saint Joseph Hospital - Elgin in Illinois is seeking a Patient Account Registrar to interview patients or representatives, collect demographics, and secure insurance information, eligibility, benefits and authorizations as applicable.

You will work with the Admitting department and PBX/reception, input and retrieve data on a computer, and communicate with patients across all ages using appropriate terminology.

Qualifications

• Experience in hospital admissions preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Customer Services experience required.
• High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)

Responsibilities

• Interview patients or representatives to collect demographics.
• Secure insurance information, eligibility, benefits and authorizations.
• Coordinate with Admitting department and PBX/reception areas.
• Operate a computer to input and retrieve data.
• Communicate with patients across age groups using appropriate techniques.
• Maintain proficiency in medical terminology.
• Complete special projects within a specified timeframe.
