Job summary

Union Community Care in Lancaster, PA is seeking a Patient Access Specialist I to join the clinical care team. You will deliver excellent customer service, register patients, schedule appointments, verify demographics and insurance, and manage sliding fee discounts to ensure smooth access to care.

You will handle check-ins, co-pays, and documentation in Athena, while maintaining compliant records and supporting team duties as needed. Prior experience in medical reception is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all patients and visitors feel warmly welcomed at all Union Community Care sites.
• Provides superior telephone customer service for patients seeking access or assistance.
• Verifies patient demographic and insurance information and applies predetermined sliding fee discount.
• Verifies coverage of insurance if needed and maintains passwords for required systems.
• Answers incoming phone calls professionally and knowledgeably about access and services.
• Applies Sliding Fee Discount Policy and Procedures; offers sliding fee to all patients.
• Schedules and reschedules appointments; monitors and updates via scheduling platforms.
• Collects applicable fees or co-payments at registration and ensures accounts are current.
• Performs patient check-in/out, updating demographics in e-HR and obtaining consents.
• Prepares daily batch report and reconciles cash drawer; handles document routing in Athena.
• Performs daily importing/scanning of paperwork; labels and routes documents accordingly.
• Supports team with label printing, room cleaning, and other reception duties as needed.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
