Job summary

West Virginia University Health System is seeking a registration/billing specialist to support patient intake and revenue cycle activities. You will obtain demographic, insurance and billing information, obtain pre-certifications, and collect payments in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires strong data entry and communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and the ability to balance cash drawers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong data entry and computer skills with good attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families and staff.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance basics preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain demographic, billing and insurance information and enter into systems.
• Explain insurance and hospital procedures to patients and families.
• Obtain pre-certifications and authorizations as needed.
• Collect deposits, co-pays and patient liabilities and document payments.
• Prepare patient identification armband and balance daily receipts.
• Follow up on accounts flagged by the system and complete required paperwork.
• Perform basic medical necessity checks and assist with consent forms.
• Schedule and reschedule patients per hospital workflows.
• Verify order completeness against scheduled services.
