Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health in Westerly, RI is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the Pathology Department. You will perform data entry, verify specimens, generate and distribute cytology/histology reports, and assist clerical staff in daily operations.

Responsibilities include accessioning specimens in EMR/LIS, preparing slides for sendouts, coordinating with physicians' offices, and maintaining department records. Strong attention to detail and good communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• AS degree or equivalent directly related experience required.
• One year experience in general laboratory procedures (e.g. centrifugation, specimen handling, specimen processing) as well as data entry/computer experience required.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills required. Diplomacy, tact, and a calm positive attitude required. Uses good judgment in performance of work. Great attention to detail required.
• Knowledge of Epic Registration and other Epic tasks is preferred.
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk, and occasionally reach for prolonged periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Assist Pathology Department with data entry, specimen verification, and report distribution.
• Receive specimens accurately and notify offices if the unacceptable.
• Register and accession cytology/histology specimens in EMR/LIS.
• Prepare specimens/slides for sendouts and ancillary testing.
• Maintain department charts for equipment and processes.
• Distribute reports and coordinate with pathologists.
• Answer department phones and handle administrative tasks.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and safety guidelines.
• Assist in preparing Tumor board materials.
