Job summary

Yale University seeks a Pathologists’ Assistant to support anatomic pathology services, examining and preparing surgical specimens and documenting findings for accurate diagnosis, in collaboration with pathologists, lab staff, and clinical teams.

Based mainly at Yale New Haven Hospital with potential rotation to Bridgeport Hospital, this full-time role requires a Master’s in Health Science or equivalent and certification eligibility. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross description and dissection of tissue; photographs specimens; procures history.
• Assists with frozen section examinations including preparation and staining; summarizes patient history.
• Assists pathologist by verifying authorization and accessing patient charts; coordinates with attending pathologist for special procedures.
• Coordinates autopsy services including supervision of laboratory personnel; maintains an orderly workspace.
• Prepares and presents at weekly clinical conferences; teaches students as required.
• Interacts with surgical staff to ensure timely delivery of samples from OR to pathology; assists in tissue collection.
• Updates and maintains database of tissue collection and usage.
• Prepares and provides monthly reports to Department Chief or Manager.
• Performs other pathology-related duties.
