Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Passenger Conductor Trainee in Washington, DC. The role supports safe, efficient train operations, assisting the Conductor, and ensuring passenger safety and service. Trainees may work on an on‑corridor or off‑corridor basis, with demanding physical work and variable shifts, including nights and weekends.

Training lasts seven to eight weeks in Wilmington, Delaware, with on‑the‑job training following at the Crew base. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two years of full-time verifiable work experience (combination accepted).
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and meet FRA vision, color vision, and hearing standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the safe, efficient operation of trains by assisting the Conductor with train movements and safety rules.
• Promote safety by enforcing procedures and assisting passengers during boarding/detrainment.
• Deliver customer service by providing information, handling disruptions, and addressing passenger needs.
