Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Passenger Conductor Trainee in Portland, ME. The role supports safe train operations, assists passengers, and works with the Conductor and crew in a fast-paced environment.

New hires undergo seven to eight weeks of training in Wilmington, Delaware, before transitioning to an on‑the‑job role on the extra board. The job expects flexibility, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended periods away from home.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two (2) years of full-time verifiable work experience and/or college coursework are required.
• Must live within a 2-hour commute of the Crew Base.

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient train operations by assisting the Conductor with train movements and safety rules.
• Promote a safe environment for passengers and crew and assist during boarding and detraining.
• Perform yard operations and assist with train assembly and inspection activities.
• Deliver customer service and manage passenger conduct amid service disruptions.
• Prepare and submit operational and service reports, including delays and incidents.
