Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a Passenger Conductor Trainee in Chicago, IL. This union position trains you to support safe, efficient train operations and customer service across the NEC and beyond.

You will participate in a seven to eight week training program in Wilmington, Delaware, with on-the-job training after. The position requires flexibility, long shifts, nights, weekends, and travel as needed; strong communication and physical stamina are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of full-time verifiable work experience expected.
• Must live within a 2-hour commute of the Crew Base.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and meet FRA vision, color vision, and hearing standards.

Responsibilities

• Support safe, efficient train operations with the Conductor and crew.
• Enforce safety procedures and assist passengers during boarding and detraining.
• Perform yard duties and assist in train assembly and inspection activities.
• Deliver customer service, manage delays and disruptions, and communicate with passengers and crew.
• Maintain knowledge of operating rules and safety procedures.
