Job summary

Amtrak is hiring a Passenger Conductor Trainee for Zone 5 in Washington, DC. The role involves supporting train operations, ensuring safety, and assisting passengers as part of a close‑knit crew.

You will participate in comprehensive training in Wilmington, DE, designed to develop essential conductor skills and field experience. The position is union and requires working nights, weekends, and extended periods away from home.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Two years of full‑time work experience and/or college coursework.
• Must live within a 2‑hour commute of the Crew Base.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and meet FRA vision/hearing standards.
• Good attendance and adherence to safe work practices required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Conductor with train movements and safety rules.
• Enforce safety procedures and assist passengers during boarding/detraining.
• Perform yard operations and assist in train assembly.
• Deliver customer service and manage service disruptions.
• Collect fares and revenue documentation per tariffs.
