Job summary

Amtrak is hiring a Passenger Conductor Trainee in Taylor, MO. This hands-on role supports train operations, assists passengers, and learns under experienced conductors to ensure safe and reliable service for riders on rail corridors.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years of prior work experience, strong communication and teamwork, and flexibility for variable schedules, nights, and weekends. Training occurs in Wilmington, DE as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of full‑time verifiable work experience and/or college coursework (combination accepted).
• Demonstrated history of satisfactory attendance and adherence to safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Support the safe, efficient operation of trains by assisting the Conductor with train movements and safety rules.
• Promote a safe environment for passengers and crew by enforcing procedures and assisting during boarding/detraining.
• Perform yard operations around trains and safely connect/disconnect equipment.
• Organize and sort checked baggage on long-distance trains for final destination transfer.
