Job summary

Taxwell seeks an experienced WordPress consultant for a part-time engagement (~20 hours/week) to own technical ownership across eight WordPress sites hosted on WP Engine. You will be the primary WordPress expert, largely working independently.

Responsibilities include WordPress and WP Engine administration, security maintenance, troubleshooting, feature development, and technical support for content and SEO teams. Strong PHP/HTML/CSS/JS and API experience required.

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on experience administering and developing WordPress sites.
• Experience with WP Engine environments and deployments.
• Ability to troubleshoot security and performance issues.
• Experience with technical SEO and schema markup.

Responsibilities

• Administer production, staging, and development environments in WP Engine
• Maintain WordPress core, themes, and plugins across all properties
• Manage deployments, backups, user access, configuration, and environment health
• Identify and fix WordPress vulnerabilities and insecure configurations
• Test updates, resolve plugin and theme conflicts, and remove obsolete components
• Diagnose and fix site errors, rendering problems, and performance issues
• Build and modify pages, templates, themes, plugins, and site features
• Complete technical SEO work, including sitemaps, redirects, metadata, schema, canonicals, and robots.txt
• Support content teams with page builds, publishing workflows, and WordPress configuration
• Maintain and extend integrations using APIs and the WordPress REST API
• Support AI-assisted development, content, and publishing workflows
• Coordinate with engineering, security, infrastructure, and marketing teams when needed
