Job description

Taxwell helps everyday Americans get every tax advantage they deserve by finding credits and deductions they never even knew existed. Our tax preparation software offers easy guidance and ensures your maximum tax refund. We strive to build a team of like-minded experts in both tax and technology who align with our brand purpose, are advocates for our customers and have a fresh, non-traditional approach to the tax industry.

Taxwell is seeking an experienced WordPress consultant to provide approximately 20 hours per week of hands‑on technical ownership across eight WordPress sites hosted on WP Engine.

You will be our primary WordPress expert and will work largely independently.

The role combines WordPress and WP Engine administration, security maintenance, troubleshooting, feature development, and technical support for our content and SEO teams. We need someone experienced enough to identify problems, determine the right solution, and carry the work through to production without requiring substantial oversight.

What You'll Do
  • Administer production, staging, and development environments in WP Engine
  • Maintain WordPress core, themes, and plugins across all properties
  • Manage deployments, backups, user access, configuration, and environment health
  • Identify and fix WordPress vulnerabilities, insecure configurations, and other security issues
  • Test updates, resolve plugin and theme conflicts, and remove obsolete components
  • Diagnose and fix site errors, broken forms, rendering problems, and performance issues
  • Build and modify pages, templates, themes, plugins, and site features
  • Complete technical SEO work, including sitemaps, redirects, metadata, schema, canonicals, and robots.txt
  • Support content teams with page builds, publishing workflows, and WordPress configuration
  • Maintain and extend integrations using APIs and the WordPress REST API
  • Support AI‑assisted development, content, and publishing workflows
  • Coordinate with our engineering, security, infrastructure, and marketing teams when needed
What We're Looking Fo r
  • Deep hands‑on experience administering and developing WordPress sites
  • Strong PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills
  • Experience working directly with WordPress themes, plugins, and APIs
  • Hands‑on experience administering multiple sites and environments in WP Engine
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress security, access control, vulnerability remediation, and plugin risk
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot unfamiliar problems and take work from diagnosis through production
  • Familiarity with technical SEO and common WordPress SEO tools
  • Experience using AI‑assisted development tools and integrating AI services into content or publishing workflows
  • Clear communication and good judgment when balancing security, stability, effort, and business needs

This is an part‑time engagement rather than a full‑time position. It is best suited for a senior WordPress generalist who can serve as our primary expert and reliably carry the work within an approximately 20-hour weekly commitment.

At Taxwell, we believe our work benefits from the diverse perspectives of our employees. As such, Taxwell welcomes and celebrates diversity and inclusion and is committed to equal opportunity employment. At Taxwell, you can expect a supportive, open, and inclusive atmosphere and a team that values your contributions.
