American University’s School of Public Affairs is seeking a part-time Web Assistant to support daily website updates and outreach efforts. The role focuses on enhancing the external site, ensuring accessibility, and contributing to communications across channels.
Ideal candidates are AU students with a willingness to learn, basic HTML/CSS familiarity, and strong attention to detail. Part-time, 10 hours per week, with compensation $18.40–$20.00 per hour.

Summary:
The Web Assistant supports the day-to-day communications and outreach activities for the School of Public Affairs with a focus on the school’s external website: https://www.american.edu/spa/. This position provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic student who is looking to build their communications and web design portfolio, with no prior website experience required.
Essential Functions:
Perform basic website updates to keep the website fresh and engaging.
Support efforts to improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on the website.
Support efforts to ensure that web pages and videos are digitally accessible and 508 compliant.
Other tasks as needed to support the school’s communications channels (social media, email, screens, etc.).
Competencies:
Strong attention to detail.
Good writing skills.
Good at working within a team.
Ability to learn new skills, platforms, and technologies at a rapid pace.
Microsoft Word & Excel or Google Docs equivalents.
Familiarity with HTML and/or CSS a plus, but not required.
Familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) a plus, but not required.
