The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate to welcome visitors, check in guests, and share information about museum policies and programs.

You will assist with wayfinding, surveys, and memberships, and help with events and accessibility needs. Shifts include Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with potential additional hours.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a customer service role.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers.
• Experience with Microsoft Office365, SharePoint, Excel, and Word.
• Experience in an arts, non-profit, or educational setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate. This is a front-line position responsible for establishing initial interactions with visitors to the museum to ensure that all feel welcome, supported, and informed about museum offerings.

Visitor Service Associates are responsible for checking in visitors, informing visitors about museum policies and current activities, promoting museum programs and membership, assisting with wayfinding, conducting visitor surveys, and assisting with cleaning/maintaining interactive displays and resources.

Visitor Services Associates provide services as necessary to accommodate groups and persons with disabilities; perform additional customer service duties as assigned for museum events and projects; and assist visitors with Penn State-based inquiries and wayfinding as needed.

At this time, we are seeking candidates to fill specific shifts on a regular basis:

• Thursdays, 4:00-8:00 p.m.
• Fridays, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
• Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Additional hours may become available to cover evening events or shift coverage for coworkers during museum operating hours (Wednesdays through Sundays)

Minimum qualifications: Previous experience in a customer service role. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity. Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers. Experience with Microsoft Office365, SharePoint, Excel, and Word. Experience in an arts, non-profit, or educational setting is a plus.

The starting rate of this position is $15 per hour.
