The Waltham Public Library is seeking a Technology Assistant to support the Head of Technology, maintain the library website, troubleshoot a variety of tech issues, and assist patrons with computer literacy. The role involves helping with digital materials, researching information, and providing general desk support in a busy urban library setting.

Part-time position, 19 hours per week, with mornings, one evening per week, and at least one weekend per month.

Technology Assistant, Waltham Public Library (Waltham)

The Waltham Public Library wants to be the best publiclibrary in the world and that’s what sets us apartwhen we’re adding to our team. Waltham is a diversecity with a mixed socio-economic group of about 65,000residents. We have a growing population of families withyoung children, 12% of our population are teens and 40% ofour residents speak a language other than English at home.We’re seeking a friendly, adaptive,enthusiastic, service-oriented individual to help serve anurban community within a busy library setting. We're lookingfor someone who is self-motivated, cares about accuracy, andcan handle stressful situations with grace and good humor.Customer service experience is highly valued.

Duties include: Assisting the Head of Technology bymaintaining the website; problem solving and troubleshootinga variety of technology issues; assisting with softwareupdates and hardware maintenance; assisting patrons withcomputer literacy; helping library patrons research andlocate materials and information, providing assistance withdigital materials, answering telephones, checking items inand out, registering patrons, account maintenance and othergeneral desk duties as assigned. Possibly leading Makerclasses (crafts, 3D design, vinyl and laser cutting).

19 hours per week

Weekly schedule to include a morning and afternoon and aminimum of one evening/week, plus a minimum of one Saturdayand one Sunday per month year-round.

Qualifications

Associates Degree or 2 years of post-high schooleducation; 6 months of computer experience; 1 yearexperience working with the public or any equivalentcombination. Strong interest in working with computers,networks, hardware & software. Ability to perform underpressure, ability to work with library staff and a diversegeneral public in a tactful and courteous manner; excellentproblem solving and computer skills. The employee mustoccasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Must pass apre-employment physical with drug and alcohol screening, aCriminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) and abackground check. Selected candidate will be required tosubmit three written and signed letters of reference withinone week of accepting a conditional offer. Letters may notbe dated any older than two years. Preferred qualifications: Fluency in Spanish, Chinese,Haitian Creole or Portuguese; facility with social media,familiarity with III Sierra software; familiarity with basicprint or web design, makerspaces, Microsoft Office, GoogleWorkplace; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress.
