This position performs all duties related to the Access Services department, staffing the Welcome Desk, most patrons’ first touchpoint with the library, assisting with the goal of ensuring that everyone who interacts with the library receives a warm welcome and excellent customer service.
The duties of this position also include all traditional circulation tasks, including check-in/check-out of library items; recommending books, movies and other materials; assisting with locating items in the library and through the library system; shelving items on the main floor; placing holds; and gathering books to fill holds. The ability to multitask while maintaining a friendly attitude is essential and a strong knowledge of both library and current technology is needed.
First and foremost, this is a customer service position; patience, friendliness, and team-working skills will be required. Applicants should be able to work well as a member of a team, and also have the flexibility to take on projects assigned by the Access Services Supervisor.
Due to two internal promotions, we are currently seeking two library assistants, for 15 - 17 hours each per week. Unfortunately, these positions cannot be combined. This is a non-benefited position. Hours for both positions will include at least one weekday shift and an alternating Saturday 9:30 am - 5 pm shift. Additional hours may be available, applicants with flexibility to take on additional shifts as they arise will be prioritized.
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Possess a working knowledge of common office application software, computer hardware, and use of the internet as well as the capacity to adapt to new technologies. Customer service experience.
Highly Recommended: BA or equivalent. Familiarity with Sierra ILS and Aspen discovery platform or similar library applications. Experience providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced work environment. Experience in library programming, marketing, computer troubleshooting and support. Familiarity with emerging library technologies and trends.

This position has a starting salary range of $21.01-$22.74 DOQ, with annual step increases; full salary range is $21.01-27.73
