Job summary

Big Night is hiring a part-time Shop Associate to support Greenpoint, West Village, and UES locations. The role focuses on shopkeeping and sales with growth opportunities based on interest and capability. You’ll help customers, maintain displays, handle inventory, and assist with transfers and events.

You will join a vibrant retail team reporting to the Head of Operations. Prior retail or service experience is a plus, and a positive, inclusive shop environment is a core focus of Big Night.

Responsibilities

• Learn products to share recommendations with customers.
• Keep pantry, fridge and home goods displays organized and attractive.
• Receive inventory, unbox, input into system and label goods.
• Pull and pack inventory for transfers to stores or warehouse.
• Select items for web photoshoots or events.
• Fulfill ship-to-order from the store on duty.
• Follow opening/closing procedures and maintain cleanliness.

Hourly Range: $21-23/hour

Job Overview

We’re looking to add a part-time shop associate to work across our Greenpoint, West Village and UES stores. The position will be primarily a shopkeep/sales associate role, but there is ample opportunity for additional responsibility and development that comes with helping us grow Big Night, depending on our hire’s interest and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Learning about each and every food, home item, and maker represented in Big Night in order to share recommendations and more information about each with customers.
• Ensuring our pantry, fridge and home goods displays remain organized + aesthetically pleasing throughout the day.
• Receiving inventory from vendors, unboxing goods, inputting into our inventory management system, printing and placing barcodes on goods.
• Pulling & packing inventory for transfers to other stores or our warehouse as needed.
• Pulling inventory for web photoshoots or events.
• Fulfilling ship to customer orders allocated to ship from the store you’re working from that day.
• Ensure opening and closing procedures are properly completed (such as: cleaning floors, wiping down surfaces, box breakdown and garbage removal).

Position Requirements

• Interest in/passion for food, design, cooking, and/or retail.
• Desire to learn and share deep product knowledge.
• Prior experience in a retail, hospitality, or service environment is a plus.
• Proactive problem-solving, and ability to think on your feet and keep calm under pressure in a high-traffic environment.
• Desire to engage with customers and help create and maintain a positive, joyful, inclusive shop environment for all customers and staff.
• Care for details, and maintaining our store’s look, feel, and cleanliness.
• Strong belief that teamwork really does make the dream work – our small but mighty staff works very closely together and we depend on one another to ensure that Big Night is at its best, always.
• Ability to be prompt to scheduled shifts.
• Ability to carry boxes over 15lbs.
• Comfortable to work in the shop by yourself in the rare instances that this is required.
