Job summary

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College seeks a part-time Tutoring Center Assistant for the Science Tutoring Lab. The role supports chemistry, physics, and some engineering tutoring, guiding students and supervising Lab Aides and Peer Tutors.

Responsibilities include tutoring, student communication, data entry, and enforcing college policies. Bachelor’s degree or higher and prior tutoring in higher education are preferred; start date is flexible, with variable hours at a busy campus lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, physics, or related field.
• Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education.
• Patience and ability to multi-task.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and calculator use.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in chemistry, physics, or engineering.
• Supervise Aides and Peer Tutors and lab activities.
• Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff.
• Occasional data entry, record keeping, and office duties.
• Provide a positive environment for student learning.
• Implement and enforce TC and AB Tech policies.
• Other duties as assigned by the TC Coordinator.
