Job summary

The Science Tutoring Lab in the Academic Learning Center at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College provides tutoring and individual assistance to AB Tech students in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or Spanish. The primary focus is on quality tutoring experiences, helping students acquire the skills to succeed in coursework.

Aides work in a fast-paced lab and assist varied learners. Aides maintain supplies, implement and enforce policies, and provide professional, helpful, reliable help

Qualifications

• Associates Degree with substantial coursework in Chemistry, Physics, Spanish or related field.
• Thorough knowledge of the subject to be tutored.
• Experience teaching or tutoring in higher education or similar setting.
• Excellent communication and multitasking abilities.
• Basic computing skills and calculator use.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in chemistry, physics (various levels), or engineering.
• Occasional data entry, record keeping, customer service, and office tasks.
• Provide a positive environment for student learning.
• Enforce TC and AB Tech regulations and policies.
• Support the tutoring lab operations as assigned by the TC Coordinator.
